What 1000 pieces is like

Pieces are small on a full-board view, so you will live at two zoom levels: zoomed out to spot colours and shapes, zoomed in to place. The scatter ring is wide at this size; pan by dragging the background and use the zoom in / zoom out / fit buttons to jump between levels. Seeing other players' cursors matters more here than anywhere: it stops two people hunting the same piece.

Choose the picture carefully. At 1000 pieces the level of detail in the image decides whether the puzzle is fun or a slog. Paintings with strong brushwork, dense cityscapes and busy nature shots carry this size well; a portrait with a plain background does not.

How long it takes

Rotation adds around half again. The twisted shape adds more; square can double the time. Uniform pictures (sky, water, patterns) are slower than busy ones.

Which piece shape to pick

Classic, no rotation, for almost everyone. The classic shape gives every piece its own silhouette, which is what makes 1000 pieces manageable. Rotation at this size adds hours. Twisted is for veterans; square is not recommended – only the picture would help you, and at this scale that is not enough.

Classic (Normal) – Traditional knobs and holes. Every piece has its own silhouette, so the shape helps you.
Twisted (Hard) – Wobbly, uneven cuts and knobs of random size. Pieces look alike and edges do not line up neatly.
Square (Brutal) – Straight cuts, no knobs at all. Only the picture tells you where a piece goes.

Tips

Split by region and say so out loud; four people on four corners is the fastest way through.
Sort into islands in the scatter area, then attach islands to the board.
Do the boring uniform region last, when the board tells you the exact gaps.

Expect one and a half to two and a half hours with the classic shape and no rotation, assuming a picture with plenty of detail. Two people should plan for an afternoon; alone it is four to six hours over a few sessions.

Do all 1000 pieces really show at once?

Yes. The whole board and scatter area is one canvas; you zoom and pan rather than paging through trays. The grid is picked to keep pieces roughly square, so the exact count is close to 1000 rather than exactly 1000.
