What 1500 pieces is like

Everything said about 1000 pieces applies with more force: you work at high zoom, you rely on the other cursors to avoid duplicate effort, and the picture choice decides everything. A 1500 piece puzzle of a photograph with a lot of sky is not a challenge, it is a chore. Choose the busiest picture you like.

Pieces are joined into groups as you go, and groups move as one, so towards the end you are sliding large assembled sections onto the board rather than individual pieces. It is a good moment.

How long it takes

Typical times with the classic shape and rotation off, for a picture with a reasonable amount of detail:

Rotation adds around half again. The twisted shape adds more; square can double the time. Uniform pictures (sky, water, patterns) are slower than busy ones.

Which piece shape to pick

Classic only, rotation off, unless you are certain. This is not the size for experimentation. If a group finds classic 1500 too easy – it happens – turn on rotation for the next one rather than switching to twisted.

Classic (Normal) – Traditional knobs and holes. Every piece has its own silhouette, so the shape helps you.
Twisted (Hard) – Wobbly, uneven cuts and knobs of random size. Pieces look alike and edges do not line up neatly.
Square (Brutal) – Straight cuts, no knobs at all. Only the picture tells you where a piece goes.

Tips

Plan for several sessions and keep the link somewhere safe; the room lives for 12 hours after the last visit, so someone should drop in daily.
Use the ghost image (the eye button) to place pieces in uniform regions without guessing.
Four to eight players is the comfortable range; the room allows more, but beyond that people get in each other's way.

Why is 1500 the maximum?

Pieces are rendered from an image that is at most 1600 pixels on its long side, so at 1500 pieces each piece is only about 40 pixels across. Beyond that, pieces stop being recognisable, and the puzzle becomes guesswork.

Can I upload my own photo at 1500 pieces?

Yes, but choose a sharp, detailed photo; uploads are resized to 1600 pixels, so a blurry phone snapshot will not hold up at this size.
