Terms of use

Pieceware is a free hobby project. These terms are short because the site is simple. Last changed 2026-09-13.

The service

• The site is free to use for anyone, for personal or work use alike, with no warranty of any kind.
• It is provided as-is. It may be slow, go down, lose a room, or change without notice. Please do not run anything important on it.
• Rooms are deleted after 12 hours without players; uploads are deleted with their room, or after 24 hours if unused. That is by design, not a bug you can appeal.
• Rate limits exist (for example on uploads and new rooms per hour) to keep the server usable for everyone.

Your uploads

• Upload only images you have the right to use. You keep whatever rights you have; uploading grants Pieceware only what it needs to resize the image and show it to the people in your room.
• No illegal content, no sexual content involving minors, no images of people shared to harass them. Such images and rooms will be deleted and the address blocked.
• Uploads are not backed up and not recoverable once the room is gone.

Behaviour

• Keep the room chat decent. It is unmoderated beyond a rate limit, so the people in your room are relying on you.
• Do not attack the service: no scraping the API at volume, no flooding rooms, no trying to break other people's puzzles.

Pictures in the catalog

The built-in pictures are public domain or openly licensed; each picture page names the author, licence and source. If you hold rights to one of them and disagree with its use here, contact the author on GitHub and it will be removed or re-credited.

Changes

These terms may change; the date at the top tells you when they last did. Using the site after a change means you accept it.
